Boca Raton Animal Rescue Team assists in Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts
Hurricane relief donations are requested to assist animal recovery missions
Boca Raton, FL September 2, 2005 -- A response team made up of South Floridians is organizing a series of animal recovery
efforts to assist dogs and cats in the area affected by Hurricane Katrina. It is estimated that over 250,000 animals have
been displaced by the catastrophic hurricane and many dogs and cats are in desperate need of medical care and a place to
call home.
"When we return with these dogs, we will give them a home until we find their owners or permanent forever homes, no matter
how long it takes." Said Jamie Michael, the founder of Rescue Rehab Home
www.rescuerehabhome.org “We are supporting the efforts of an
international organization Emergency Animal Rescue Service (EARS). Our animal rescue team is leaving next week to pickup
as many dogs as we can from surrounding shelters who have removed dogs from flooded areas to safety. We
will transfer them to our animal rescue facility here in Boca Raton. Our hurricane relief efforts will continue to get
stranded animals out of the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina, and provide medical assistance and safe homes to these
dogs and cats.”
The entire hurricane relief effort is funded by animal rescue donations. It will be a costly undertaking to arrange air
transportation for aid givers, to lease a camper, and to care for abandoned dogs and cats until the pets owners or a
permanent forever homes can be found. The main need is for cash donations; as well donations of Polaroid film and cameras
to help owners locate their missing pets, folding crates and towels to help transfer the animals are requested. The animal
rescue team has already had tremendous help from local companies and individuals. 1-800-PetMeds has donated Advantage,
Frontline, Antibiotics and Medicated Shampoo.
