What did we do in 2006? A total of 46 dogs found new homes. Look at these happy faces above…That included the 3 who were flown from Florida to our Sanctuary in Colorado to spend their lives. New arrivals included: Casper-A Samoyed ,who has been kept alive in shelters for virtually his entire life of 6 years. He was an unpredictable “biter” who had a group of fans who supported him and took care of him. They felt our Sanctuary in Colorado would be a perfect place for a fluffy Samoyed -and since he’s arrived- he has no more health issues, lost almost 20 pounds, hikes each and every day, and FINALLY gets to keep his fluffy coat of fur without a shave down every month! He’s turned out to be our best behaved pooch yet! Shasta-Who leaped into our friends backyard from what seemed like no where! She was an escape artist with no one looking for her and needed a safe place fast. We had her spayed, dewormed, lumps removed, and helped her put on almost 20 pounds. We discovered she had a real need to please and we began working with her on her Canine Good Citizen and then Therapy work. She was a natural and within 6 months, was healthy, and choosing which home she wanted. She chose Ray who has utilized her amazing service dog abilities and has given her the work driven life she desired! Morgan-Who’s family smply moved away and dumped him in the neighbor’s yard like stale leftovers. We just don’t understand it? Besides a neuter, deworming and some serious training, he was ready to accept a new family who would stick with him-forever. Sadie-Was adopted and returned from a shelter because of behavioral issues and biting. When she came to us, she was dog aggressive and plain old irritable! It didn’t take us long to figure out that her nasty ear infections could be the root of her issues and we got her to the vet for a serious exam. Her ear infection was so bad, she needed to be anesthetized to be examined and taken care of. For the next 2 years, we ALL fell in love, took her on play dates and pool days and loved her as our own. Then, her new dad came along and with his amazing patience and support, she learned to live with (and LOVE) other dogs and became a MODEL CANINE CITIZEN! Bear- This poor guy was found dodging traffic and fighting for his life. When he was finally caught, he was a scared, skinny, petrified dog who trembled with fear if you even LOOKED at him. Of course we would have to help him. His first stop was the vet who said he was likely hit by a car but seemed to be “healed” except for some minor health problems which would all be treatable. This dog was so fearful but after all he’d been through, would never bite anyone. We all fell in love with his sweet demeanor. It wasn’t long before there were TWO families who wanted him! Talk about Rags to Riches! There were 39 other dogs we became a home for awhile to at Rescue Rehab Home in 2007. The stories never end and they all touch our hearts. Included in that were many who were found on the streets, starved, sick or injured. Many needed extensive medical care like heartworm treatments or eye surgeries. We treated 3 dogs for Heartworm Disease and participated in outreach events and functions to raise awareness of the importance of adoption, spaying and neutering to help reduce overpopulation and the unnecessary killing of hundreds of thousands in shelters each year. We helped local residents help keep their pets due to unaffordable injuries or illness. We feel that if a temporary financial setback is all it takes to help keep a dog in their home- we will help if we can. We have helped dogs and their families during and after hurricane disasters by housing them at no charge while they recovered and rebuilt their homes and lives. We trained 1 dog to be a service/assistance dog. We graduated 2 dogs with their AKC Canine Good Citizen Achievement. One was adopted and became a Certified Therapy Dog. We hosted our First Annual Charity Vegas Night at the private home of Jeri and Runo Smith and successfully raised funds for the building of our future Sanctuary. The event netted a profit of almost $11,000 for RRH- and was a FANTASTIC time had by over 150 guests. Look for this event each and every year! Early in 2007 I purchased 5 acres of property in the Mountains of Colorado for the purpose of building a Sanctuary where the most unadoptable dogs can spend their lives frolicking in the sun, grass, and snow, all while playing with their other canine pals. This was a HUGE undertaking in both finances and responsibility. These lucky dogs, once deemed dangerous or unable to live happy lives, now get to enjoy their days going on daily 2 hour hikes off leash, play time together all day, every day, holistc food and supplements and fun day trips for baths, car rides, and excitement. How You Can Help There are many ways you can help our dogs: Make a cash donation to pay for veterinary expenses, food, housing- or even sponsor a particular dog! With sponsorships in any monthly denomination, you’ll get regular pictures and progress reports an your dog’s life and escapades! . You can mail a check, make a secure online donation via our website, or call us to process a credit card donation over the phone. Make an "HONORARIUM" donation and name a sanctuary suite for someone special. We will proudly show off your gift in a beautiful wooden plaque and send you a photo. Ask us to send you flyers to post in your workplace, or for friends, family, and for your vet clinic too. The miracles this year, and each year before, could not have been accomplished without the love, support and work by our volunteers. Your time spent with every single dog in our care has changed the world for them. I will forever be grateful to you:
